42 Basically Blount 2018 By Sherri Gardner Howell The Smoky Mountain theme in the new offices of Knoxville Pediatric Associates Foothills, 245 Joule Street, is more than an acknowledgment of location. The flora and fauna and earthy color scheme are both engaging and soothing to the young patients. KPA Foothills knows about children. Tracing the roots of this group, which is now affiliated with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, takes one back to 1987, when Dr. Timothy Thurston formed Foothills Pediatric and then, more than 20 years ago, be- came a part of Knoxville Pediatric Associates. Dr. Thurston retired in June with more than 40 years of caring for children under his belt. He was there to see the ground- breaking for the new office building in November 2016, a move that took the practice from Springbrook Corporate Center, above Blount Memorial Well- ness, to the new, larger offices on Joule, which opened in October 2017. KPA Foothills is part of a group of 32 doctors, with six physicians and one physician assistant in the Alcoa office. The new space, with 8,000-square feet, is larger than the offices at Springbrook, with 15 examination rooms, two waiting areas for both sick and healthy patients and two more rooms for mothers who are nurs- ing and vaccinations. Patient comfort was one of the keys to the move, says Nikki Cox, office manager. “Our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our patients and their families,” says Cox. “Building this office helped us to achieve this in a better way.” The Smoky Mountain theme was designed to pay homage to the beauty of Blount County, says Cox. KPA Foothills was construct- ed by Merit Construction, with in- terior and architectural guidance from McCarty Holsaple McCarty. The offices may be new, but the faces are still familiar ones. “We strive to build long-lasting, trusting relationships with our patients,” says Cox. “We see this come full circle when a former patient brings their child in as a new patient. It’s a good feeling knowing that we have a positive impact on the families we en- counter each day.” A New Home for Little Patients READYTOCARE
